Summer school is right around the corner, and for some teachers that means the start of summer school. Though it’s not the ideal situation for your students and even you, that doesn’t mean you can’t maximize your time to make it a memorable and useful one. To ensure your students and you get the most out of your time, here are three things to keep in mind.
With smaller class sizes, you can get the time to know each student and learn where there struggles and strengths are. Now is the time to focus on the one-on-one learning, Though you might not have a full day, you do have a smaller classroom, allowing you to connect with your students and make the most of their time.
The first thing you need to realize is that your time frame is much shorter, so don’t try to overload each day with a year’s worth of school work. Focus on more in-depth lesson plans and themes, so your students get the most of the subject while learning a variety of topics. The good thing about the shorter days is the student burn out is far less likely to occur.
Remember that it is summer after all, and with it will come summer fever – so why not use that to your advantage? If your student seems antsy, find a way to move the lesson plan outside. Open the currents and let the sunshine in. Add more hands-on activities, so your students can burn off the extra energy while still getting a good lesson plan in.
