The Do’s and Don’ts of Teacher Appreciation Week

May 9, 2017

Teacher Appreciation Week is here, and though you may have lost track of time, or have a busy week ahead—  it’s not too late! There are many simple, affordable and creative ways you can show you care (that no, are not apple themed!).  So if you can’t get past the cliche ideas, here are just some of the do’s and don’ts of giving the educators in your life a gift they’ll appreciate for years:

Do let Them Know how Their Teaching Helps

Whether it’s a simple handmade card or a poem, be honest! Let them know how their work has affected your life. A simple recognition of their hard work is all you need to bring a smile to their face.

Don’t Forget Your Former Teachers

We all have that one teacher that made us love to learn or who just loves what they do. So go back to your old school and let them know you haven’t forgotten about them. Going out of your way to think of them will show what a presence they had. It’s never too late to show you care!

Do Consider Passing on the Pictures

Leave the pictures for the grandparents and close relatives. Instead, maybe have your child write a story or help with a useful handmade craft. It’s affordable and thoughtful and can add to the classroom decor.

Don’t Rule out Gift Cards

Though they seem a bit cold, there are ways of giving them with some thought behind it. Look for local restaurants or spas that they might enjoy.  Do you live near a local theater? Theater tickets would be ideal for music or theater teachers. With a little thought, you can find a very personal way to show you care.
