Social Media Bulletin Board Ideas to Make Back-to-School a Blast!

August 5, 2015

Back to School pinned on noticeboardWhat’s the best part of back-to-school? Decorating of course! From classrooms to hallways, there are plenty of bulletin boards that need a back-to-school facelift before the students come shuffling in. Since kids these days are fully immersed in social media, why not incorporate it into the classroom? Here are a few great social media themed bulletin board ideas that we’ve come up with to help make your classroom decor a hit on the first day of school.

“Get Ready to ‘Like’ X Grade!”
Set your bulletin board up to look like Facebook, using a title with a play on the word “like” and incorporating the Facebook thumbs up icon. Then, create a “newsfeed” with each student’s name and picture. On the first day, ask them to come up with one fun fact about themselves, and write it as a comment. Make sure to leave room for a changeable classroom “status” and a “photos” tab that you can fill with classroom memories throughout the fall.

“#FirstDayofSchool”
Turn your bulletin board into an instagram account! Fashion the top half of the board to mimic what the Instagram search screen looks like, and input #FirstDayofSchool in the “search bar.” Then, leave boxes below with each student’s name. On the first day, take a picture of each student and add it to the board. If you’re feeling really crafty, you can create a fun frame for your students to hold up in their picture.

“Tweets From Class X!”
What’s better than a live Twitter feed to share all of your announcements and special classroom memories? Set up your board to resemble a Twitter feed and leave room for each student to leave a tweet. On the first day, ask them all to tell you what their best summer memory was, and write it in next to their picture. You can even send out an email or letter in the weeks leading up to the first day of school to get a head start! The best part about this bulletin board is that it can be used throughout the school year as new and exciting announcements need to be made.

These are just some of the many creative ways you can decorate your classroom for the upcoming school year. Do you have any other great ideas to share on our Facebook page?

Remember, as you organize and decorate your classroom you should also inspect the furniture you have been given to make sure that students will have a safe and comfortable start to the new school year.
