How To Plan the Perfect End of the Year Party!

Whether your students are moving up a grade or moving onto another school, there’s no better way to celebrate the close of another great school year than with an end of the year party. After all, who doesn’t love food, fun and games? One of the best ways to celebrate the end of the year is with an award ceremony! Here are some great ways to make the most out of your celebration and plan a party and award ceremony that your students will love:
Come up with award categories. Depending on the grade or subject that you teach, you’ll want to come up with fun, relevant categories. For example, if you teach history, you might have a “Future Historian,” or “Future President” award, and if you teach art you may want to try “Best Portrait Artist” or “Most Imaginative.” You can make them serious or funny, it’s all up to you!
Work out the prize situation. Decide whether you want to do trophies, certificates, or both. If you decide to order trophies, don’t spend the money on personalization. You can print out labels and stick them right on the front! For some categories you may want to get some little trinkets to give out as well. It’s always a good idea to have some sort of a consolation prize so that no one feels left out.
Plan for the paparazzi. It’s no doubt that parents, siblings and other family members will want to come share in the festivities. A long piece of red fabric can double as a red carpet, creating that real-life award ceremony feel. Scholastic also suggests creating a backdrop on one of your bulletin boards to model a step-and-repeat for picture taking.
Choose a great host or hostess. There’s nothing that makes or breaks an award ceremony more than the host. Ask for student volunteers to read award categories and give out prizes. You can even have students perform skits or tell jokes in between awards, just like at the big time ceremonies!
