Summer vacation is so close we can almost taste it! And if you’re a teacher, we bet you’re wondering what you’re going to do with all of that free time you’ll have on your hands over the break. If you’re anything like us, you’ll want to keep busy. Here are a few ideas we’ve found that can help you motivate your mind and body this summer:
Teach! You thought teaching was only an option from September through June didn’t you? Think again! There are countless opportunities to continue to teach over the summer and make a little more money in the process. If you’re adventurous, try teaching in your favorite country over the break. There are tons of international programs for Americans to teach abroad! Not up to all that travel? There are plenty of summer school programs in colleges and universities, as well as local public school districts. Check with your school to see what opportunities might be available to you.
Tutor! Not looking to commit to a full work week over the summer? We don’t blame you. Why not exercise your teaching abilities during private tutoring sessions? This helps bring in some extra cash, but can also be extremely beneficial to your students. Now is a great time to start identifying students that may need a little extra attention, and recommend private tutoring to their parents.
Extend your education! Maybe you’re looking to add a few more letters after your signature (MA, MS, MEd, etc.), or maybe you’re working on completing some additional credits to get that pay raise your district is offering. No matter the reason, the summer is a great time to knock out some of those college classes!
Get up to speed! In addition to college classes, there are tons of teaching seminars and workshops that you can attend if you choose to. Actively participating in the teaching community as a whole will keep you up to date on the latest teaching trends and technologies.
Plan! Don’t find yourself stuck at the end of the summer in a planning tizzy. Spend your summer wisely stocking up for the upcoming school year and get a head start on your lesson planning. Trust us, you’ll thank yourself in August!
