For teachers and school administrators, one of the most exciting aspects of back to school planning is getting to decorate your hallways and classrooms. Since many students often feel nervous about their first day of school, it’s important to create a warm and welcoming environment, and the decorations you choose can help you do just that! Whether you’re planning for your hallways or individual classrooms, bulletin boards are a great decorating tool that can be used to add color and style to your school. What’s even better is that bulletin boards can even be used as an additional teaching tool by depicting certain themes and subjects that you are currently learning about.
To help you plan for back to school, we’ve come up with a few bulletin board ideas that you can use this fall! Check them out below:
“Fall into “X” Grade!”
For this bulletin board, cut out different colored fall leaves and place each students name on their own leaf. Then, on the first day of school, ask students to take their leaf and place it on your bulletin board! As students come up, ask them to introduce themselves to the class so that they can begin to get to know one another.
“Fitting into “X” Grade!”
For this bulletin board, design a puzzle that students can put together during the first week of school. Start by asking students to bring in their favorite picture of themselves. Once each student has brought one in, hand out one puzzle piece to each student and ask them to include their name and picture on it. Then, have them come up one at a time and place their puzzle piece in the correct spot on the bulletin board. By the time they’re done, you will have united your new class by completing the puzzle!
“Getting to know Room “X!”
This is a great bulletin board for outside your classroom. On the first day of school, present students with a note card and ask them to write down one fun fact about themselves. Once they’re done, take students into the hallway in groups and have them pin their fun fact under their name. This exercise will help students get to know a little bit about one another!
For each of the above, be sure to adjust the title of your bulletin board to match the grade level or room that you’re associated with!
