Technology in the Classroom

April 23, 2018

Technology has changed everything, especially when it comes to learning. New companies are popping up all over the place delivering products and resources that are helping to shape the future. Tech helps us leverage what is already possible and create what currently isn’t. Education is a field that has seen a constant rise in technology for the past few years. Technology is here to stay and education will be at the front of everything.

E-learning and New Ways to Learn

New software and programs are making it easier for students to learn. The classroom of the future is not blackboards and textbooks, it’s iPad and smartphones. Your device now enables you to learn from just about everywhere in the world. Sites like Lynda and Khan Academy have made great advancement in achieving the goal of modernizing learning. You no longer have to be present to be learning. You can see a video or audio recording of what you have to study instead.

Learning On-the-Go

E-learning, or learning on-the-go like it’s sometimes called, is a great idea. Nooks, Kindles, and loads are now your textbook. Instead of carrying 4 heavy books in your backpack and having back pain all day, you can now carry thousands of books on your iPad or smartphone. This is great because students will have the opportunity to learn more with less effort.

Nickerson is proud to help students make the most of their technology by creating marker spaces for students in school. A makerspace is a collaborative work space used for making, learning, exploring and sharing. The space is for students to have a maker mindset of creating something out of nothing and exploring. These spaces help to prepare students with new skills in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).
