Keeping The Classroom Germs Low

December 31, 2017

With all those tiny hands and runny noses in such a small space, one sneeze can be enough to get the whole class sick! It might seem like keeping your classroom free of germs, is impossible, but it’s not. With the proper preparation and care, you can keep the germ count low:

Clean, Clean and Clean Again

The most important thing to remember is to wipe down your surfaces on a regular basis. All areas of the room should be sanitized at the end of each day, including all furniture, computers and even books and writing utensils. It may be both fun and beneficial to get the students involved with the “work day wipedown” as well. Choose a few cleanup leaders and put sanitizing stations around the room for end-of-day use.

Provide The Essentials

In addition to your sanitizing stations stashed with disinfectant sprays and paper towels, make sure your students have proper hygiene necessities as well. Place hand sanitizer, wet wipes, and tissue boxes around the room — and don’t forget about garbage pails so your students can dispose of them properly.

Keep Away Clutter

The real MVP award for keeping your classroom germ-free this winter are the custodians. After performing your daily disinfecting routine, make sure the classroom is left nice and neat. This allows the custodians to come into a “ready to clean” space, where they can maneuver around more easily to tackle the germ hot spots better.

While you’re wiping down every inch of your classroom to keep germs at bay, you may start to notice that some of your furniture is looking a bit worn.
