Keeping Your Kids Mentally Active Over the Summer

June 30, 2017

Beach days, bike rides, and late night swims can consume most of your summer. Though it’s a time to relax and enjoy family and friends, there are still many exciting ways you can spend time with your kids while learning! Finding interesting and useful ways to keep their mind working can help improve their grades, and increase their love of learning. So here are just some of the ways you can keep your kids mentally active this summer break:

Family Game Night

An excellent way to get some bonding time in is through a weekly game night. No matter the game, most have some strategy involved— so it’s a great way to keep your kids mentally stimulated. Pick a different game each week to keep it interesting, and even let them invite a friend or two.

Treasure Hunts

Whether you do it at home or away, a treasure hunt will keep your child on their toes. Scope out a few local museum, aquariums, or zoos and create a list of things your child should find. Have them cross off what they discovered and discuss it on the way home. Having a mission will keep them focused on the trip, and they might even learn something new!

Complete a Project

Whether it’s model cars, finishing a puzzle, or painting pictures, there are many projects you and your child can take on together. Play any instruments? Why not take one up together! Try and pick an activity that’s outside of their regular interests. Join a book club or learn another language. The options are endless!
