America Recycles Day!

November 15, 2016

Today is America Recycles Day and we couldn’t be more excited about it! Recycling is something that should be promoted and encouraged in your classroom all year round! As a teacher, we accumulate tons of papers, projects and things over our course of teaching. Not only should you develop a good way to recycle and organize your own products, but you should implement good recycling habits into your classroom with these tips:

  • Create your own classroom recycling system. While you probably already have a recycling bin located near your trash can, we recommend bringing in additional bins so that students can learn how to sort out different recyclable materials. Teaching them the importance of separating paper from plastics and aluminum is a good way to start habits early–and you can even make a fun game out of it.
  • Encourage students to bring in old or unused items that can be used in the classroom as extra school supplies or art materials. Everyone has extra things laying around the house that other people can get good use out of. Take your old broken crayons, shave them down and melt them together for one ultimate colorful crayon!
  • Take a field trip to a local recycling center. You can teach your children about recycling from the classroom, but  great way to supplement their studies and give them a hands-on, visual learning experience is by letting them see it first hand. Deliver your recyclable items and talk with the people who work there about how those items will be made into new materials.

How will you be celebrating America Recycles Day? Let us know!
