We bet you’re spending plenty of summer days restocking and reorganizing your classroom for the fall, but are there organization opportunities that you haven’t thought of yet? The items that you use to organize your classroom don’t always have to be so cookie-cutter. In fact, there are plenty of household items that can be repurposed to make life in the classroom a bit easier. To help you think outside the box, here are a few clever classroom organization ideas that we think you’ll love:
Dish racks can make great desk organizers! Their dish-separating grooves are perfect for organizing folders or workbooks that you need to access on a daily basis, while the utensil holder can double as a pencil cup. Have a ton of worksheets printed for this week’s lesson plans? Use dividers labeled with the days of the week to file away lesson plans and activity sheets for easy access throughout the week.
Ditch the dingy boxes and store your board games in plastic storage towers. Give each game a drawer and label them accordingly. You’ll never have to worry about flimsy boxes falling apart and losing valuable game pieces. *Bonus Tip: The storage tower method works with almost anything. Just sort, label and enjoy a clutter-free classroom!
Color-code your bookshelves. First, creating a category system that identifies reading level by color. Then, paint the shelves of your bookcase and restock, placing books on their correct shelf based on reading level. This will make it easier for you to keep track of your classroom library inventory, and will allow the students to more easily identify books that are perfect for their pace.
