Time Saving Tips for the Classroom

November 5, 2014

Time Management ConceptWhen talking about time management, any teacher will tell you how precious their time in the classroom is; especially when it comes to getting through all of their lessons in a given time frame. Especially for teachers at the high school or college level who do not see students for an extended period of time, it’s extremely important to manage time wisely since there is often more material to be covered than time allows. But with so many interruptions throughout the day, how can one possibly fit in all of their lessons comfortably without feeling pressed for time? We’ll tell you! See below for three time saving tips that can help you work more efficiently in the classroom:

  1. Outline Priorities: As you plan out each day, figure out which lessons hold top priority. If you have additional activities planned that don’t focus on the core subject(s), place them at the back of the list so that there is no need to worry if you don’t get to them that day.
  2. Don’t Wait: As soon as students enter the classroom, have an activity planned and get started on it. While it can be easy to get distracted while students settle in, emphasize that there is work to be done and have it ready before they even get to their seat.
  3. Assign Roles: Rather than have to do everything yourself, give each student a job that can be done simultaneously – this way, you can get more than one thing done at a time! For example, if you’re about to start a reading lesson that requires additional text and writing folders that you store at your desk, have one student hand out the books while another distributes the folders!

At Nickerson Corporation, we believe that another great way to save time is by setting up your classroom in an effective way. When things are easily accessible to both you and your students, it requires much less time to get ready and can make getting through the day a much easier and smoother task.
