Nickerson Corporation has been supplying educational furniture and equipment for over 60 years in the New York and New Jersey markets thanks to a hard working and dedicated team of employees. This month, we’d like to introduce you to our very own V.P of Operations, Ike Steward, and bring you behind the scenes of Nickerson Corporation.
Ike comes to us from Granville, NY (also known as the Slate Capital of the World). Entering the industry in high school, Ike quickly found a passion for the field and realized he wanted to develop a career in a business where he could be innovative and creative, bringing new ideas to the table each and every day.
“I wanted to be something different every day,” says Ike. “I think that is why I love what I do.”
Though Ike had it in his heart to begin a career in this field at a young age, he took some time off after his father insisted that he pursue a career that could take him in a variety of directions. However, after only two years, Ike realized this is where he belonged and returned to the industry shortly after – we sure are grateful to have him back!
For the past 30 years, Ike has been an essential part of the Nickerson team. As our Vice President of Operations, Ike works to oversee and manage the functions of all our departments, making sure that our customers receive the service they deserve. Though everyday brings new opportunity and new experiences, Ike pinpoints one specific memory from his time here that he believes he will carry with him forever:
“I lead a prayer on 9/11 in the conference room with the entire office staff watching the devastating acts of terrorism against our beloved country,” explains Ike.
Not only does Ike lead us from a business standpoint, but he also certainly leads us as a group of people just doing what we love, and we couldn’t appreciate his acts of kindness more!
